The events centered on the theme of\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Sisterhood and Struggle: Writing Black Women&#8217;s Political Leadership&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0mark the first visit of Dr. Carole Boyce Davies to Athens, Greece.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Esteemed scholar of Africana Studies and English at Cornell University (Ithaca, New York), and author of prize-winning books such as\u00a0<em>Left of Karl Marx: The Political Activism of Claudia Jones<\/em>, Dr. Boyce Davies will be presenting a historical examination of Writing Black Women\u2019s Political Leadership, centering the historical struggles and causes of erasure of Black Women\u2019s activism legacies, posing pressing questions leading to action in the present.<\/p>\n<p>The events take place in the context of UAWO\u2019 s ongoing study of\u00a0<strong>Black and Afrofeminist traditions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A continuation of UAWO\u2019s 1st Black Feminist Skillsharing Workshop, which took place in Athens over the course of five weeks in 2018, the initiative aims to address issues concerning the politics of space, and function as a platform to access knowledge and histories of political struggle often unacknowledged in many activist spaces in Greece and elsewhere. The event series includes workshops, womxn\u2019s circles, reading groups and public talks.<\/p>\n<p>The upcoming events also mark the\u00a0<strong>first visit of ENPAD to Greece<\/strong>. ENPAD\u2019S annual meeting will be taking place over the weekend, with members gathering from over 15 countries in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0<strong>Friday October 11, 6pm<\/strong>\u00a0Dr. Carole Boyce Davies will give a public lecture titled\u00a0<strong><em>Half the World and African Women\u2019s Rights<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0which will take place at the Antoniadou Amphitheater (Amfitheatro Antoniadou) at ASOEE, Athens University of Economics and Business (Patission 76).<\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0<strong>Saturday October 12<\/strong>\u00a0a more intimate workshop will take place inviting womxn of all backgrounds to discuss current problems and ways of self organization.<\/p>\n<p>A reading circle will also take place reflecting through the work of Professor Boyce Davies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For details and to sign up\u00a0<\/strong>contact\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:africanwomengreece@gmail.com\">africanwomengreece@gmail.com<\/a>\u00a0and\/or 6942772927.<\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0<strong>Sunday October 13<\/strong>\u00a0an African Brunch Potluck Party will take place 12-5pm. Cet \u00e9v\u00e8nement marque la premi\u00e8re visite de Prof. Carole Boyce Davies \u00e0 Ath\u00e8nes.<\/p>\n<p>Chercheuse tr\u00e8s respect\u00e9e en litt\u00e9rature anglaise et en \u00e9tudes africaines \u00e0 l\u00b4Universit\u00e9 de Cornell (Ithaca, New York) et auteur d&#8217;ouvrages tels que<em>\u00a0Left of Karl Marx: The Political Life of Claudia Jones\u00a0<\/em>(2007).<em>\u00a0<\/em>L\u00e0 Dr. Boyce Davies examinera de mani\u00e8re historique comment\u00a0Ecrire sur le leadership politique des femmes Noires\u00a0centr\u00e9 sur les luttes historiques et les causes de l\u00b4oubli des legs de l&#8217;activisme des femmes Noires, posant des questions d&#8217;actualit\u00e9 pressantes menant \u00e0 l&#8217;action dans le pr\u00e9sent.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Les activit\u00e9s se d\u00e9roulent dans le contexte de l\u2019\u00e9tude en cours par UAWO des\u00a0<strong>traditions Noire et Afrof\u00e9ministes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 la suite du premier atelier de cinq semaines sur le partage des comp\u00e9tences chez les f\u00e9ministes noires organis\u00e9 par l&#8217;UAWO \u00e0 Ath\u00e8nes en 2018, cette initiative vise \u00e0 aborder les probl\u00e8mes li\u00e9s \u00e0 la politique de l&#8217;espace et constitue souvent une plate-forme permettant d&#8217;acc\u00e9der \u00e0 la connaissance et aux histoires de luttes politiques non reconnues dans de nombreux espaces activistes en Gr\u00e8ce et ailleurs.
